2002 interview from "
O to Be... Anything But Me" mock talkshow (think "Jiminy Glick" or "Space Ghost")
At the 14:39 mark from "Inanitmate Portrait" segment
Weren't there female teen singers long before Deb (ie Shelly Fabares, Annette Funicello, Lesley Gore) and also there were edgy pop singers with "twitching navals" with Madonna, Paula Abdul, and Samantha Fox. Granted they were adults, but their music aimed and/or appealed towards teenagers.
Wasn't Shakira in her mid 20's?
Deb's into country and jazz (she did a slow jazz version of "Lost in Your Eyes" and is a fan of Michael Buble) Also doesn't actually have regrets on being a former teen idol.
I'm aware that teen pop tend to be frowned upon, but the sketch wasn't funny.
"My music was about love, peace, unity... not buttcrack", probably the funniest line and very much true.
Deb playing "Shake Your Love" and "Electric Youth" as a ballad on piano reminds me of many artists performing certain songs on "Unplugged" and "Storytellers" that doesn't comes off right when done acoustically.
