While doing a google search for an old MTV countdown list, I stumbled upon a Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) forum that had a list of MTV's 100 Videos of 1988.

Though some were from 1987 (guessing were still popular in early 1988), only one video  from Deb and is towards the bottom of the list:  "Out Of The Blue" at #70. They could atleast have it on the Top 50.

"Foolish Beat", which I consider the best of 1988, is nowhere in sight despite that she became the youngest artist to write, produce, & perform a #1 hit.

I know it's probably based on video rotation and the popularity of the songs and/or artist, but I'm sure "Foolish Beat" had regular rotation since it obiviously was a hit song.

Also suprising: No Taylor Dayne!!!  Shocked

Yes I can tell you they used too play Deb like crazy for a while there back in the day it was like she was always on shows like the week in rock shows like that on MTV. Adam Curry would have her interviewed Dial MTV every so often.

They player her and many others until about 1992 and that's when the whole network radically changed directions.

1992, when "Real World" debuts and also a precursor to the type of shows that would dominate  tv this decade...   >blech<

 Shocked

(the 1988 thread was bumped and the list for '89 was listed)
Quote
MTV’s TOP 100 VIDEOS OF 1989
100. It’s No Crime - Babyface
99. The Love In Your Eyes - Eddie Money
98. The Angel Song - Great White
97. Walk The Dinosaur - Was (Not Was)
96. Rooms On Fire - Stevie Nicks
95. Girl You Know It’s True - Milli Vanilli
94. Fool For Your Loving - Whitesnake
93. Lost In Your Eyes - Debbie Gibson
92. When Love Comes To Town - U2 / BB King
91. Kisses On The Wind - Neneh Cherry
90. Everlasting Love - Howard Jones

...

* 12.
* 11.
* 10.
* 9.
* 8.
* 7.
* 6.
5. I Won’t Back Down - Tom Petty
4. Cult Of Personality - Living Colour
3. She Drives Me Crazy - Fine Young Cannibals
2. Straight Up - Paula Abdul
1. Like A Prayer - Madonna

Now...  As you can see, 6 through 12 are missing.  They're missing from my 20 year old hand-written list too.  I think I had to go somewhere and had to record it to tape and dictate later, only my tape ran out.   Also the Top 5 are from memory, so the order might not be exactly right, but those are definitely the Top 5.     The mystery missing 7 videos, through careful thought and recollection, to the best of my ability can only be the following.  The order is anyone's guess:

?. Girl I’m Gonna Miss You - Milli Vanilli
?. Rocket - Def Leppard
?. Paradise City - Guns N Roses
?. Once Bitten Twice Shy - Great White
?. Hanging Tough - New Kids On The Block
?. Lay Your Hands On Me - Bon Jovi
?. Stand - R.E.M.

And yes, I do realize that Appetite and Hysteria both were released in 1987, but they were still pimping videos well into '89.
