Though may sound extremely cliche, I doubt it'll top the original series. Though there has been rumors in the past of a new series or film, this is more likely to be false. Though Mike Judge did feature the characters on the trailer the 2009 film "Extracted" and a MTV appearances from the VMAs several years ago to the 20th anniversary special.

MTV...why not Comedy Central (also unwatchable, but at least still >tries<>to< live up to  it's name).

Also, that Moronic Television and other "music" channels mostly air reality shows and music videos are shafted for about three hours in the dusk hours. Not to mention most people tend to watch video streaming sites like YouTube. (Can't picture the duo being technology savvy either)

Ironically enough MTV was drifting away from music programming in the '90's, which the show originally aired on and wouldn't fit at any network at the time (too edgy for network television and "Adult Swim" wasn't yet created).

I'll give the show a chance (if true), though not expecting much. Considering the past revivals of  "Ren & Stimpy", "Celebrity Deathmatch" (though the show was hit & miss to begin with), etc. Heck, MTV2 only air the  same dozen episodes whenever it airs repeats of the show (once in a while).

The New York Post reported today that MTV is resurrecting Beavis and Butt-head. Unlike the original episodes which were produced in New York, the new episodes will be made in Los Angeles.

Quote from: From New York Post
'Beavis and Butt-head" -- the show that celebrated the slacker way of life and helped make MTV into a network that did more than just play music videos -- is coming back.

The move to resurrect the hugely popular 1990s animated anti-heroes has been rumored for several days. But yesterday, sources at MTV confirmed that a new batch of "Beavis and Butt-head" episodes are in the works.

The new series would keep Beavis and Butt-head in their perpetual high-school state, but it would be updated so that the pals -- who obsessively watch music videos on a battered TV set -- could lob their snarky comments at more current targets like Lady Gaga.

The show's minimalist animated style is also expected to remain intact.

The return of "Beavis and Butt-head" will be a backdoor means for MTV to return to showing music videos -- something the network was founded upon but abandoned in the last decade to make room for popular reality shows like "Laguna Beach," "The Hills" and "Jersey Shore."

"Beavis and Butt-head," which premiered in 1993, began as an animated short called "Frog Baseball," which aired on MTV's "Liquid Television."

The basic plotline revolved around two shorts-wearing, spectacularly immature teenage pals whose banter was delivered against the backbeat of their constant idiotic laughter.
Series creator Mike Judge, who's also creating the new episodes, voiced both characters.

The guys worked at a fast-food joint and were always out to "score" with "chicks" when they weren't sitting on a ratty couch watching music videos.
Beavis, the blond half, usually wore a Metallica T-shirt and would morph into his crazed, gibberish-spewing alter-ego, "Cornholio," when he ingested too much sugar.
Butt-head was the "cooler" of the two. He usually wore an AC/DC T-shirt and often picked on Beavis in much the same way Moe would slap around Curly, Larry and Shemp on "The Three Stooges."
The duo was so successful they were spun off into a 1996 big-screen movie, "Beavis and Butt-head Do America" and a marketing juggernaut of T-shirts and character trinkets.
A recurring character on the show, high-school classmate Daria (whom they called "Diarrhea"), eventually got her own MTV series.
After MTV canceled "Beavis and Butt-head" in 1997, Judge went on to create "King of the Hill" for Fox.
He also wrote the cult-classic movie comedy "Office Space" and last year's big-screen movie "Extract."
MTV officials had no comment yesterday.
Judge is "not commenting at this time," his publicist said.

I really have doubts if it will work like it did 15 years ago.  They will want to "update it for a modern audience" and that will take away from the original concept.  It will also probably be done in CGI instead of hand drawn animation.

More likely Flash animation, which dominates tv animation (ie "Fairly Oddparents", "Total Drama Island", "Johnny Test", "Aqua Teen Hunger Force", "Super News", etc)

Confirmed...

Honestly, an official YouTube channel featuring the duo trashing music videos from certain artists and perhaps other "viral videos"  would be better.

Like most past revivals, don't think it'll be good...

Behind the Scenes of "Beavis & Butt-Head" from MTV News (1994)

Attending the MTV upfront presentation in New York, Tim Stack reports that the network just announced that Beavis & Butt-Head will indeed make its triumphant return to the network. The announcement confirms previous online reports, some from creator Mike Judge himself, that MTV was working on a return of the hit series.

When will Beavis air? Executives did not say. But they did give a premiere date for the network’s TV series version of Teen Wolf. The drama will debut June 5, after the MTV Movie Awards.

"Teen Wolf" based drama? Probably would just be horrible as the movie...  Tongue

If they were going to do it exactly like they did before then it will work but I'm not optimistic about that considering how MTV is and the track record of other cartoons where this has been tried.

Come to think of it, "My Life as Liz" is basically a live action version of "Daria" (spin-off of "Beavis & Butt-Head") about a supposed "outcast (though is part of the "hipster" clique).

Some details on the show...

Quote
The new show, which debuts later this year, will be very familiar to fans of the Nineties original. "They'll be self-contained segments with the boys in different situations like they used to be," Toffler says. "But this time around, they'll watch Jersey Shore, UFC matches and user-generated videos from YouTube, in addition to music videos." All of the programming will be displayed on the duo's TV, even if it comes from YouTube — "like silly videos of cats playing music."

YouTube? Can't picture them computer savvy...even in the 21st century. Though the article stated it'll be on television. (well, there's some tv shows that showcased viral videos)

"Jersey Shore", UFC matches...makes sense.

Though the show had poked fun of MTV before in the mid 1990's when the boys were stated that the channel is only shows & snowboarding while watching a  Weezer video.

Even with Mike Judge on board, not too sure...

Plus, would Stewart even wear a "Winger" shirt?

Honestly, a good idea for a special for MTV's 30th (if there's one)  could feature Beavis & Butt-Head ripping on various vintage MTV clips, performances, promos, shows (especially their own), etc. from 1981 to the present.

1. the launch/moonman
2. Kiss without make-up
3. Madonna's 1984 VMA performance (along with other notable performances)
4. some Spring Break clips
5. some "Headbangers Ball", "Yo! MTV Raps", "120 Minutes", etc
6. infamous shows from "House of Style", "Real World", "The Osbournes", "TRL",  etc.
7. VMA & MTV movie award clips
8. various VJ segments
9. music videos, especially classics they haven't critiqued

They didn't even know how to use one.  They had to have Stewart get them some online porn once.  Now that was funny.

If Mike Judge is going to be involved that makes me at least a little optimistic that it won't be as bad as I was thinking it might.  But if they go for CGI and try to make it too "hip" then it's going to be en epic failure.  It needs to be hand drawn animation like the original and he needs to do the voices.

I doubt they'll be in CGI. Most of the tv cartoons are done in Flash and some are traditionally drawn. Only a few (outside of preschool shows) I'm aware of are done in CGI (several Nicktoons from "Fanboy & Chum Chum" and "Penguins of Madagascar", the recent "Transformers" incarnation on The Hub)

The characters have appeared a few times on MTV specials (MTV 20th, one of the awards shows several years ago) and the trailer for Mike Judge's "Extracted" in 2009.

I remember the very first season when they were on Liquid Television.  The animation was crude but those were some of the best episodes.

New episodes will air in the Fall

The video in the link features some clips with the return of Cornholio, who literally gains a cult following, and Beavis & Butt-Head trashing "Jersey Shore"

Viacom removed the video.  I heard about it being shown at Comic Con.  From what very little I've seen it looks more promising that I had first expected.

That looks very familiar.  I was really laughing when they started on "Jersey Shore."  That has to be the worst show in the history of TV.  Even worse than "Turn On."
